This mid 20th century oil on canvas painting is by Swiss-American fine artist Kurt Oscar Weber(1938-2011). Weber primarily worked in sculpture and painting. He also worked in several genres of art includingGerman Expressionism,Abstract Expressionism,Color fielding, andFiguration. He is known for his international solo and group exhibitions primarily presented in the US, France, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. He maintained studios inEmeryville, Californiaand inUerikonnearLake Zurichfor over 30 years.
Weber’s oeuvre consists of four distinct genres: Late German Expressionism, which reveals his close scrutiny ofMax Beckmann,E. L. Kirchner, andEmile Nolde. Abstract Expressionist works saluteJackson Pollock,Conrad Marca-Relli,Arshille Gorky, andPhilip Guston. Figuration nods toEric FischlandEgon Schiele. Weber’s expansive Colorfields reflect his respect for fellow Bay Area artist,Richard Diebenkorn, as well asHelen Frankenthaler,Ad Reinhardt, andBarnett Newman.
